Unreal how many times I have to reconnected this piece of trash controller. Rachio wants to say its signal or whatever. It isn’t. EVERYTHING in my homes works fine except this POS. Does anyone have an actual explanation on why the pos Rachio will just drop offfline? I have full speed and strength where the controller is…it’ll connect and stay connected for about a day and then drop off…WTF WHY?
That “whatever” part is doubtful. If you provided just as much information to them that you’ve provided here (a community forum), then it’s gonna be a tough diagnosis. Tell us more - which Rachio, where’d you get it, what kind of WiFi is available (single band, multiband, 2.4 only, 5.0 only; on a wifi repeater, outside, in the garage, next to the table saw, under the house? Since it lasts a day, what time of day does it die? And finally, I’m kinda partial to courtesy in this forum. We’re not selling anything, so, happy as we are that ALL the other things in your home are working nicely, give us just a tad bit more info and courtesy to help with your Rachio.
Okay. Controller is the Rachio 3, (2022). Wifi (internet is COX) is mutli-band at 2.4, 5 and 6…The router is about 25 from the controller which is in the garage. There are 2 exterior walls the signal has go through. I added an extender on an outlet about 15 feet but has to go thru an interior wall now. I can’t tell you when it goes offline, since it happens all the time. For context I have a Ring outdoor on solar that is running perfect and over 75 feet from the router. Thanks for the help. Ohh and the “whatever” is I’ve called customer service many times about this same problem…the response is it is the signal…My “whatever” is HTF can that be if I’m connected once they go thru all the steps to re-connect? I’m looking for a new controller but still wanna figure this out. Also, I have run speed tests in the garage and my service is flawless.
Have a friend with same issue - Pro 3 with good signal at controller but went offline frequently and had to be reconnected. She has replaced unit and all is now fine, she believes. I will test her system by installing it near my own R3 and see if it behaves itself or exhibits same behavior.
I do wonder why it doesn’t continue to try to reconnect itself. I seem to remember that it is supposed to try for one day, but then stops trying. Is that the way it is supposed to work, or are there some other factors in play?
Let’s get this resolved for the guy. A day of connectivity should indicate at least a middling level of signal and surely the data requirements are minimal. He shouldn’t have to switch brands - Rachio is too good to abandon!
If you’re running the Ring directly routed through an exterior wall without difficulty from 75 ft., you should be able to run a Rachio through a couple walls from 25. Try removing or disabling the repeater that’s close to the controller. If you can subscribe the Rachio to the 2.4 MHz band, you’ll likely get a better connection too.
I recently discovered an extender recommended for my use would drop a connection in a detached garage when more than 1 (ONE!) device tried to connect through it. If the repeater has a “device” light on it, (power, signal, synch, device) beware! It was cheap and now I know why.
Perhaps this will help. I have a mesh ASUS system running 2.4 & 5. R3 would drop and not reconnect every time I rebooted the router or power went off. It had no problems connecting to the mesh wifi network in setup. Just would not reconnect when wifi or power went down. I could go out to the garage and manually reconnect without any problems.
I been testing the following solution and so far it’s working. I created a 2.4 guest connection on my router, no other devices are currently on it. I also set the R3 up with a dedicated IP address. I have connected the R3 to the guest network and it reconnects if I reboot the router or pull the power. It would have been a real help if Rachio clearly and boldly states that using mesh networks are problematic with the R3 and then offered this or anyother type of solution. Good Luck.
