Good morning. I have a Rachio 3rd gen controller. My issue is that while having my garage rehabbed, the drywaller put the cable too high and I don’t have enough slack to reach controller. It seems that my easiest and less expensive fix would be to splice another section of cable in for me to reach. Can someone tell me if there are splice kits available, is this a feasible fix and it is easy to do? Thank you for any help you can provide.
First off, how does the cable run in the wall? From the top down, or bottom up? I would think it would be from the bottom up, and you could punch a small hole and fish the wire in the lower location…
If that isn’t an option, you can use pretty much anything to splice the wires to extend. Most basic would be wire nuts, but those would be bulky as each wire would need it’s own twist on wire nut. Slightly cleaner and more compact would be to use a Wago connector, although will still look a bit clunky unless you want to hide this in the wall behind a low voltage box and blank cover, then pop the wires through at the new lower location.
Or, last option if it had to stay exposed on the wall would be to use a terminal block. This option would look the cleanest if it needed to be installed outside the wall.
This is very helpful. Thank you so much!
