I just reseeded with cool season grasses in 3 zones. I’m having trouble figuring out how to set up a schedule to water the newly seeded zones for 10 minutes each, three times per day, beginning a 5AM and ending late afternoon around 5PM. I want to avoid watering in the evening. Any help would be appreciated.
When I reseeded a couple of years ago, I founded the easiest way for me was to set up, in my case, for schedules. Then as the zones were growing, I could easily disable schedules, etc.
Thomas, thanks for your reply. I set up 3 Fixed Schedules for every day during the first two weeks after reseeding. Schedule 1 is a Fixed Schedule to water at 5AM for a total of 25 minutes (Zone 1 @ 9 min, Zone 2 @ 9 min, Zone 3 @ 7 min) and use Smart Cycle and Weather Intelligence. Schedule 2 is a Fixed Schedule to water at 11AM, and Schedule 3 is a Fixed Schedule to water at 5PM, both with the same settings as Schedule 1, the 5AM Fixed Schedule. How does that sound? Seems like a overly complicated workaround to deal with reseeding - a common situation that Rachio would do well to address with a pre-programmed module more intuitive than the instructions for setting up to water reseeded zones provided online.
I set mine up kind of similar, but with 4 schedules, 21m / zone @ 0630, 1040, 1450, and 1900. Well, that is what I ended with. All the skips were enabled. It seems like I adjusted the start times as the days got longer. I thought I adjusted back and maybe removed schedule(s) as they got shorter. I also looked for mushrooms and would scale it down if they appeared.
I bought the seed from the place that I bought my sod and asked them quite a few questions. For example, the zone time was based upon what how much water to put out and then I calculated it out based upon my nozzle inches per hour (0.5). At least that is what I think I did. As I think about it, it does not sound like much.
You create a single schedule with a manual cycle and soak time. You set the zone run time to the total time you want each zone to run for the day. You then set manual Cycle and Soak times. The cycle time is how long you want it to run each time and Soak time is the off time before it repeats.
Samuelt83, thanks. Very helpful, particularly the illustrations.
