Rachio 3 Not Responding in Homekit (Again)

your controller should be on 615 (or updating…)

If you PM me your serial number I can have the engineering team send that firmware.

My controller is now 615. I’m not home, I’m picking up dinner in a long line at a restaurant/curbside. I’ll give it a try this weekend

I was immediately able to add the Rachio controller to HomeKit on the 615 firmware. First try. No issues.

This is with a Synology mesh router network (2 nodes). The Rachio on 2.4 GHz and my iPhone on 5 GHz -when- I added Rachio to HomeKit…

*FYI - After setup, I noticed the Rachio moved to 5 GHz Automatically.

Let me know if you have questions. Franz has my email and I’m free to talk on the phone.

I will keep an eye on things. Fingers crossed.

I have been lurking on this thread for the past few months now. I am excited to revert back to the 615 firmware, however I haven’t gotten the update yet. How can I update?

Thanks!

Thanks to Franz, my Rachio 3 has been reverted back to 615. I was able to add it back into the Home app immediately on my first try. I didn’t have to do any “special” at all.

I look forward to this being fixed on future firmware updates and am still willing to beta test any new releases specifically aimed at HomeKit fixes — for now though, 615 works great as it always had.

If you PM me your serial number I can have the engineering team revert your controller to 615.

Day 2 - My system is working perfectly with firmware-hk-5-615.

NOW THIS HAPPENS UPDATE AVAILABLE

Now my controller says a update is available??? NO WAY!!!
• What version is trying to install, 632?
• Are these updates automatic? (no way)
• Will this update automatically install? (NO WAY)

I began having problems with Rachio / HomeKit compatibility long before April 19, 2019 when I started this thread, over 1 year ago… Really, since I purchased my Rachio

I am very anxious to see how many people are helped by reverting back to 615 (something I and others suggested months ago). Hopefully this will be one big step for mankind in finding out just what happened in 631 / 632 so that the Rachio team can get things fixed right. Then we can all move forward…

Rachio, I would suggest NOT pushing out firmware or app updates -AUTOMATICALLY- until things have been throughly tested… You have some smart customers that have offered to help test beta software (after it is tested in-house).

Thank you Franz for being willing to take this step backwards. That must have been hard knowing the work that was done to get to this point. Hopefully it will help find the problem on your end…

UPDATE AVAILABLE???

I can confirm that reverting back to firmware version 615 also allowed me to re add the Rachio 3 Controller to HomeKit! Thank you @franz and @Macsterguy!

I can also confirm that downgrading to 615 allowed me to re-add the controller to HomeKit and control it as I could before. I did have to reboot it at least once and fiddle with my WiFi a bit but it showed up instantly when I did.

So, can we get a change log for 631 and 632? I’m curious what I’m “missing out on” by downgrading to 615.

Just a HomeKit note for all - If you name your zones anything but "Zone 1, Zone 2 and so on, Siri will have a very hard time recognizing what you want. She does a great job if you just say “Hey Siri, Water Zone 1”… etc

**Bonus, even on your Apple Watch :grinning:

Just guessing here (based on experience with Google Assistant), “Hey Siri, Water Shrubs” might be heard as “Hey Siri, what are shrubs?”. See whether “Hey Siri, start watering shrubs” works better. If so, you can keep logical zone names and still control from your watch.

It’s stopped working for me as well

How do I get on the older firmware? I removed the co troller from homekit, reset the controller, can’t add it back. Would love that 615 action

Thanks @Michael_I for your updates and technical explanation. I’m good with you taking the time to provide some technical details since it gives a good window in to what difficulties and hurdles manufactures have to go through to implement HomeKit integrations in their products and appreciate as customer and tech enthusiast (and a developer myself) the work done behind it.

615 Firmware also has seemed to solve my HomeKit problems and everything is working correctly!

Rachio support reverted my Rachio 3 back to firmware 615 and that fixed the HomeKit issue for me, also. (Thanks!)

In my earlier posts in this thread, I mentioned a possible IPv6 issue. (IPv6 support is required by Apple for HomeKit.)

Under firmware 632, my Rachio 3 showed as NOT IPv6 compatible.
After my Rachio 3 was reverted to firmware 615, I rechecked it (using the iOS app Network Analyzer) and now it shows that it IS IPv6 compatible.

I’m guessing IPv6 comparability was inadvertently removed somewhere between firmware 615 and 632 (or 631). That’s likely at least part (if not all) of the issue.

Good catch. It wouldn’t be the first time IPv6 has been the root of a problem… Hmmmm

I have also been trying to resolve HomeKit integration with firmware 632. I would prefer not to roll back to 615, is their a time line on when a fix will become available?

Just an FYI, we lost HomeKit connectivity about a week and a half ago, turns out it was when the 632 upgrade was applied to our controller. I requested last night that they roll us back to 615, that was applied this morning (12 hours later, crazy fast!) and everything is working perfectly again. Prior to 632, we had the controller working with HomeKit for a good year and it was super solid, never had any issues until now. Hopefully they get the bugs worked out in 632 soon.

Yes, and remember, once you downgrade to 615 you will see a “Update Available” option… I assume this would take you back to 632 so I wouldn’t :+1:t3::grinning:
