Rachio 3 & Hunter PSR 22 problem

I recently converted my irrigation controller to a Rachio 3. I use an irrigation well/pump connected to a Hunter PSR-22. I have ran the system over several weeks without problem as we upgraded heads.

Yesterday my PSR started buzzing very loud when starting a zone. After killing power at the breaker panel I inspected the PSR and discovered a colony of ants.

I’ve watched a video from Rachio that stated Rachio 3 needs a Munro PSR, but don’t recall ever seeing that on their product page.

Will the Rachio 3 work with a Hunter PSR-22 or did the ants cause the failure?

Need to fix quick to keep the grass green and HOA happy!

Thanks for your help!

Another old post but I thought I’d comment anyway. First of all, yes, if ants could get inside that relay, they definitely could gum up the works and ruin the relay.

As for Munro vs Hunter PSR, I could not get my Rachio 3 to work with the Munro StartBox PSR, the one Rachio recommends. I had to go with a second, smaller relay to drive the larger relay (PSR). I guess this is to say there is nothing special about the Munro, it’s just the one they did their testing with at Rachio. And now, apparently something has changed.
