OK, just set up a new zone for a dripline we just ran for some new trees - I know this has been asked multiple times, but something doesn’t seem right.
We have 10x trees total, each with 2 emitters, chosen for the tree type. The trees are still small(ish), maybe about 4sq.ft. each, some short, some taller. 2x Arborvitae, 4x Willow, 5x Flowering plum, 1x Maple.
The total gph for each is show here, along with what I think is the correct calculation …
8x 5gph 40 (2x Arborvitae, 4x Willows)
3x 6gph 18 (1x Maple and 2x smaller flowering plum)
3x 8gph 24 (3x larger flowering plum)
82gph total
All trees approx 2ft x 2ft
10x 4sqft 40sq.ft total
(82gph / 40sqft) * 1.604
3.29in/hr
I’ve updated the zone advanced setting with that, and left all the rest of the settings alone. Proper soil type (clay/loam). The zone thinks it’s 796.5sq.ft which I think came from the original setup of the zone, where I eyeballed the stretch of trees. We were originally relying on overspray from popups for the grass along where the trees are planted.
Anyway, I set up a schedule, using Flex and all days available. The first time through it selected 5h29m as the watering time, probably because the original 0.25in/hr setting (or whatever it was) in Advanced settings. I deleted the schedule, updated the in/hr to 3.29 and rebuilt the schedule. Now it wants 48m watering time - that sounds more reasonable ?
But it’s only doing it for today. Upcoming doesn’t show any other watering hits for the week. We’re in Utah at 5000’ altitude where 22% humidity is considered a humid day … If we don’t water the larger flowering plums at least every other day, the leaves start crisping.
How is it deciding what day(s) to water ? Is there any way to move it to an every 2 or 3 days schedule without losing the Flex watering capabilities (rain skip etc.) ?
