I know it is a slim chance, but if you happen to have wire hanging around, you could run wire from the controller to the sprinkler valve box. However, an ohm test at the controller or voltage test (with zone one) at the valve box will tell you the same thing. The disadvantage of the voltage test is that you will have to remove a couple of wire nuts. You may need to anyway. I always recommend replacing the wire nuts if you take them off to get fresh, new waterproof wire nuts.
Sprinkler technician replaced the master valve wires and solenoid and the issue is now resolved. @DLane and @Thomas_Lerman thank you for your assistance in getting this resolved.
