I’ve had a Rachio 3 for one season now and I still don’t know how to use it well.
Here is what I want to set up. I want to run each of my 5 zones for 5 minutes, then repeat that twice more. I know I’m not using the full capability of the device, but I want to set up the described scenario so that I can run it on demand or on a schedule such as every other day or every Monday and Friday and activate the schedule whenever I want.
Is this doable? How do I set this up.

You got to create a schedule with the zones and run durations and intervals. It’s pretty simple. Rachio caters to the “don’t know nothing” crowd to the ones who are or think they are Turfgods. Everyone eventually KNOWS their irrigation controller.

First of all, set up your zones. Get the exact size. Measure the water consumption for 5 mins and multiply by 12. Search here for calculating the in/m².
Get your soil type right. Use a Mason jar to test if unsure ( Google Mason if you don’t know).
If you get the zone correct, then everything works.
If you don’t want to do all of this, just add your valves to smart plugs and setup schedules, and remove the Rachio controller.
