Do you need to purchase the expensive weather-proof box for the Rachio 3 if you are installing it in a garage? My garage is completely dry, but it does get hot, over 100 degrees in the summer.
No. You’d probably be better off without the box as far as heat goes. Mines in my garage since this summer and I live in 100+ degree land. It’s been fine so far.
PPSSSSHHHH!!!
I have one of my Gen1’s installed in a weatherproof box that gets a solid dose of mid-day and afternoon sun here in Arizona…been going strong for 4 years now. Can’t say the same for the Velcro I used to mount the Rachio in the box though…
I have mine in the garage w/ no external box and I’m north of Houston, it has been plenty hot the last six weeks. And now…
I heard up to 2’ of rain over there! I wonder how many dumb sprinklers are running at the moment?
More than a few I’m sure.
I know this is an old thread now, but since it was brought back to the top…I’ll update my situation…
Meh, I’ve had a Gen1 Rachio in an outdoor enclosure (zero ventilation essentially) for almost 8 years in Arizona. It’s seen 115+ ambient temps numerous times.
Lol. Weatherproof is not heat proof.
