There are expensive tools to find where underground sprinkler valves are. Check Armada.
It will be great if Rachio can help find valves by sending on/off signals fast enough to generate chatter or some other way.

This must work on the same principal as the “toner” phone companies use to chase buried cables?
It works by turning the valve on and off so rapidly (3-4 times/second) it causes the solenoid to chatter. You then walk around the and listen for it. If the valve is buried in soil it will be difficult to hear. Rainbird solenoid share almost impossible to hear. Weathermatic has that feature built into their controllers.
