Dry Spots

My backyard has 3 zones that overlap each other. It’s really just a big grass rectangle. However I have a handful of spots that are constantly dry and slightly dead looking, while the rest is flourishing. I put out some cans to measure and the dry spots are getting just as much water as the lush spots are. Is there a setting I should use that would help? A friend suggested that the dry spots could be ever so slightly higher so the water runs off.

I’ve got a couple spots like this as well; one is slightly sloped and the other is next to a cedar fence that gets baked by sun reflection. What I found that helped is to take a hayfork (I think that’s what it’s called, it’s a short-handled pitchfork) and poke holes in the ground so the water can penetrate.
