I’m having problems with wiring. Old irrigation (Toro TMC-212-ID) working fine. The zone wires are connected as they were but not sure which wires go into either C or M in Rachio3. No zones work and i’m guessing it’s due to nothing going into Common/C in Rachio. Rachio lights up with the zone that’s supposed to work but nothing turns on. No zones turn on. All wires going into the left side of the Toro were coming from the rain sensor - had white going into COM, two reds going into 24VAC (nothing went to Sensor on Toro - not sure if it ever worked). Odd thing (to me) is that the wire from the rain sensor is what was going into the Toro COM input.

It sounds like you have a pump or master valve as well as a rain sensor, correct? I usually recommend hooking it all up except for the sensor as it gets connected very different usually. The old sensor usually goes in-line with the common wire which rain causes the common to get disconnected and thereby not allowing power to flow to the valves. Rachio reads the rain differently and skips the watering without recording that it did some watering, etc.
Thanks for the reply. I saw that other thread you referenced but that wiring was quite different than mine. I don’t think I have a pump/master valve (at least nothing was wired into that for my old Toro system - the Pump/MV input is the second input down on the gray boxes on the left. I was trying to do everything without the rain sensor to get it going but if I completely ignore the rain sensor wiring, I don’t see anything that would go into the Common on the Rachio. The only thing going into Common on the Toro was the white wire that directly came from the rain sensor. I’m sure I’m missing something simple, but using the Toro as the base and trying to plug into similar areas on the Rachio isn’t working.
If you do not have a pump/master value, nothing gets connected to ‘M’. If the white is going directly to the sensor, that would likely be the wrong wire. For now, I would remove all wires going to the sensor off the Rachio. I was going to say this before, but forgot…most find the intelligent weather better than the sensors. I took a look at your pictures, especially the old controller, but it is hard to tell where wires are going and looks a bit fuzzy.
Got it working - thanks! I removed all sensor wiring and there was another black wire that I hooked up to the Common on Rachio and that worked. I was expecting maybe a white wire based on Rachio documentation and the odd thing is that this black wire wasn’t hooked up to common on Toro but it works so i’m happy. Thanks again.
Good work @cborgelt. I would guess the black wire may have been connected to the sensor. When the sensor is dry, it “connects” the black to the white. Although it is common for the common wire to be white, it is completely up to the installer which wires they use.
