Yes, thanks. I think the Rachio is my best shot at doing it the way I want. I haven’t seen any other controller that comes close.
Flex Daily schedules don’t track skips in the same way it does for Fixed schedules. It just fluidly adjusts.
Thank you @drew_thayer for the detailed set up instructions. That said, I need some aspirin to go with my Old Fashioned to counter the headache I got reading through all that. As a simple, and much simpler than even I thought, homeowner with a 13-zone system watering ½-acre of lawn, shrubs, trees, and sometimes-flowering things, my Rachio3 and its complexity have totally overwhelmed my meager intellectual capacity for yard care. When I purchased the unit two seasons ago, I had mistakenly yet in retrospect humorously thought the Rachio3 would make watering EASIER…silly me. I set things up as logically as I could manage, selected Flex Daily, and let it rip. When I see standing water, I shut it off. When I see parched areas I turn it on. When it waters during a pouring rainstorm (only occasionally, thankfully) I shut it off. And so on. I have no clue if anything is being watered correctly other than seeing something die, and I have even less of a clue if water is actually being saved vs. some non-Rachio3 watering protocol. All this hoohah coupled with the lack of Homekit connections generally point me in the direction of having made a really bad choice of irrigation controller…for me. The only advantage I believe I’ve gained is being able to turn the system on/off from my phone, though that’s a pretty common feature among today’s controllers. And now, after penning this epistle I must leave; a second Old Fashioned is now required.
@SalisburySam it’s honestly not THAT difficult to set up flex daily schedules. Contrary to some comments on here, you don’t need a masters in horticulture to set up a working controller. There are plenty of people that can guide you here. At the end of the day, location, soil type, and emitter inches per hour are probably the 3 most important settings to nail down. Feel free to start a thread to get help on your setup, as I don’t see any topics from you.
As for Homekit, while I see it as a convenient feature I guess, I wouldn’t trade the functionality of the core Rachio system for it, but many on here are very passionate about it…the good news is, I think they truly are on the path to figuring out a solution.
But again, I appreciate your kindness and offer of assistance in a separate thread.
