Rain skip not working despite showing precipitation way over threshold

Installed a new Rachio 3 12 zone system a few days ago. Rain skip threshold set to 1/8”. Yesterday it rained well over a full inch, and the Rachio app even clearly shows that as well, however it didn’t skip my planned watering for this morning.

This was one of the main reasons I bought the thing, seems like a simple feature, so what gives?

I know it does a 12 hour and 1 hour weather check before the start time. I checked the app well after the 12 hour mark, and it still showed it was planned to run, and it had rained quite a bit at that point, well over the threshold.

First, you say that “Rachio app even clearly shows that”. Where does it show that? Do you have Flex Daily schedules, or are you going solely based on the forecasted weather in the app? Do you have your controller pointed to a specific weather station near you? If you look at that weather station, does it report the amount of rain?

When you set up the schedule, did you actually have that schedule set to rain/freeze/wind skip? You can opt in and out of those when you set up the schedule.

I meant that it shows the amount of precipitation in that little weather band at the top of the “Events” tab. Shows over an inch of rain, but my schedule did not show skipped.

I have Flex Monthly set right now. Weather is set to “Weather Network”
Yes I have Rain Skip enabled for sure.

I guess I could have waited to see if it decided to skip when it did the 1 hour check before the run, but considering that would be 4am and I’d be asleep, I didn’t want to risk it running so had to manually skip it.

Well, there is a point where observed overtakes the forecasted, and I’m not 100% sure when that handoff happens. I personally like using a specific weather station that is closet to me over the aggregated weather network option…assuming you have a good, viable, well maintained weather station near you. With that, you can click on the specific weather station and see what the observed amount actually was. It’s possible that observed aggregated weather didn’t quite add up…

The observed aggregated weather (weather network) showed over an inch of precipitation, while my rain skip threshold is set to 1/8”. Might be misunderstanding you though. I don’t think the data source was the problem since it correctly registered the rain amount, it just didn’t skip.

I guess my point is that it seems like I can’t trust the rain skip function and will have to skip manually since I’ll be asleep when it makes its final check.
