I have an 8 zone Iro. I have a total of 8 zones. 3 in my front yard and 5 in the back. There is currently two separate controllers. For the installation, would I be able to connect the common to the first block and the 3 zones to the first 3 terminals on block#1. Then connect the common from the 2nd controller to the block #2 (it only has the rain sensor and another common) and 5 zones to the remaining terminals on block #1?

Yep, that is exactly how I would recommend installing the wiring myself. You must be an expert
