Installation order - wires or wifi first?

The instructions at http://support.rachio.com/article/210-detailed-installation-guide-updated state

  1. Download the Rachio app, plug in the Iro and complete the WiFi
blink-up procedure. Be sure to complete this step before you remove
    your old irrigation timer!!

Subsequent steps then walk you thru disconnecting your old controller and hooking it up to the Iro.

I thought I was good to go, but then decided to watch the videos (a picture being worth a 1000 words, and all that)

There are 2 install videos at http://support.rachio.com/article/236-quick-install-videos The lower video, titled “Installing the Iro Wifi Sprinkler Controller” also assures the user that installation is simple, however it insists on the reverse order! At around time 10s into the video the box is unpacked. Step 2 at time 34s is to unplug the old timer, subsequent steps go thru the attachment, and at the end of the video at 2:26 they say to go over to the app setup.

So does order matter, and if so which one is right?

Hi @mikeT, good evening. Thanks for reaching out.

I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Looks like I had a typo on the detailed install guide. I apologize for the contracting instructions and will correct this.

Either way works in reality, but I’d recommend installing the hardware first (wall mount and wiring), then connect the Iro to WiFi (blinkup), followed by setting up your account/sprinklers on the app.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other installation questions I can help with.

Best, Emil
