As Needed Schedule Not Keeping Up - Lawn Turning Brown

First of all, I’m a big fan of what Rachio and what you guys are doing, but I’m disheartened with WAN schedules. At first I put all my zones in one big schedule and Rachio setup a watering schedule for all zones every x days – all of them at the same interval. But if I split out each type (grass/shrub) and each sunlight (lots/shade) into different schedules, the daily intervals for each are different.

So this doesn’t work as I’d expect. I’d expect that when each zone needs water, it gets water, no matter the day or schedule. I’m not sure why I’m needing to split all this out.

@pclaar Flex schedules work similiar to what you described, and they will be fully re-introduced with our next software release. Each zone runs as an autonomous entity. If you’d like to add some and try them out you can add them here https://flex-app.rach.io and then edit in our normal web app or mobile apps. Here is some more context and information around flex schedules.

@franz Thanks for the quick reply. I’m not on the forums much so I’m sure that this has been hashed out again and again, but I’d love to just setup each zone (vegetation/soil/sun) and Rachio just waters things when (if) it needs it. Looks like Flex is the way to go. For the consumer, I think the differentiation between these types of watering schedules can get confusing. You know much more about your market than I do, but I bet most people would go for an automagic mode…

Thanks!

@lford I believe this is due to your soil parameters. If you do find it’s too much water, I would suggest reducing minutes in the edit schedule duration screen as you see fit.

are you still having issue? Ditch wan and go back to flex. Wan was way tooooo frequent for me.

Also is the San in your loam fine or course? If,it is fine I would suggest moving your awc in flex up some, like .1

Thank you for the reference material! The loam is very fine, so I am going to play with Flex again this weekend. I am still not happy with WAN.
